In October we sent a team of 7 enthusiastic volunteers to Ethiopia for our third trip there this year. They successfully drilled three wells over the period of two weeks using some of the improved techniques learnt in Nicaragua back in July. Our team also supported a medical / vaccination clinic, distributed around 200 HOPE FOR GIRLS Menstrual Hygiene Kits, carried out Health training, assessed our recently finished latrine unit and performed some much needed upgrades on the drilling rig. These upgrades will help us maintain peak performance of the drilling rig for the future of our drilling in Ethiopia.
Whilst in Ethiopia, our International Programs Director took time to scope out potential sites for future latrine projects. We will tell you more about exciting opportunity in our Year End report due out in December.

Hope Springs Water is passionate about training and ensuring that our team leaders are fully equipped to do the work we ask of them. In July 2023, we partnered with HydroLogica to train 9 current and future Team Leaders in Managua, Nicaragua. This was a huge success and even our most experienced drillers picked up helpful tips on how we can drill more productive, longer-lasting wells using the equipment that we have been blessed with. Plus, they trained whilst drilling - so Nicaragua now has one more water well courtesy of Hope Springs Water.

The biggest disappointment of the fall was that we had to postpone our October drilling trip to Guatemala. The dates seemed good to us, but God had other plans. First, our head driller was unable to go due to his wife needed surgery for a knee injury. A day later, we learned that another team member (our translator) had also suffered a knee injury and would have been physically limited if he made the trip. The day we took the hard decision to postpone the trip, we learned that political protests in Guatemala had paralyzed the roads and most of the country. God knew all of this in advance of course and as of today the protests have declined and roads are again open for travel and we have rescheduled the trip for January 2024.
The good news to come from this disappointing situation is that we have identified at least two possible drillers that we can approach about working with us in Guatemala to drill wells with our equipment. This could expand our abilities to drill more wells, even when some of our leaders are not able to make the trip. It also provided us with local knowledge of water tables and improves our opportunities to bring in good producing wells.

Drilling in Guatemala
Over the summer and fall, we've been hard at work, collaborating with local partners, such as Pastor Dr. Moses Wafula and our in-country driller, Mr. Nazir Mwenda (aka Johnson). Together, we've identified eighteen additional sites for borehole drilling across western Kenya.

We cannot drill wells or build latrines without money, but here at Hope Springs Water, we try to keep the FUN in FUNdraising. This quarter, we had 2 major events, Golf2Well and the GiveWell Live Music event.
Golf2Well 2023 - 10 Teams joined us at the Athens Country Club for a beautiful day golf. As ever, we are extremely thankful to our all sponsors and supporters for partnering with us to bring Hope to the world through clean water, raising over $15,000.
Our Live Music GiveWELL Event in August was a first time event for Hope Springs Water, but definitely not the last!! The Tuxedo Cats had about 100 of us rocking, singing and dancing as we ate Smoky B BBQ and just let our hair down for a GREAT cause, raising funds to drill another well in Guatemala, supporting around 30 families.
We have asked the band to return next year and help us celebrate the Black Eyed Pea Festival, so mark your calendars for July 20th, 2024! You do NOT want to miss it!
Looking forward
